Description
Over the last 2 years I have had the privilege of raising some of Select aquatics Odessa barbs. I recently was able to successfully breed these guys and would love to share with anyone who is interested. These guys are about 4 weeks old and in about 2 weeks will be ready for new homes. Please note these guys will color up as they approach maturity. Price for these guys will be $4 each.

Males: Show a bold red stripe from snout to tail, edged in black with metallic silver shoulders. Their fins glow with red and bright yellow highlights, which intensify during courtship.
Females: Have softer silver-gold bodies with faint red near the belly and subtle orange tones in the fins, deepening slightly when ready to spawn.

I will provide some information on the Greg Sage Odessa barb line below for those of you interested in finding out more, along with pictures of the parents in my personal fish tank. The pictures don’t do them justice. A link to his website is also attached.

The Odessa Barb (Pethia padamya) is a brilliantly colored, peaceful schooling fish originating from Myanmar. Greg Sage of Select Aquatics in Colorado has spent well over a decade developing what many hobbyists regard as the finest, most vibrant strain available today. Beginning in the mid-2000s, he selectively bred for three main traits:
•Intense, consistent red coloration in males
• Uniform body shape and strong health
• Balanced temperament suitable for community aquariums

Through meticulous culling and line-breeding, his Odessa Barbs display deeper reds, richer contrast, and more predictable patterns than typical store strains. The line is also known for its high fertility, steady growth, and exceptional hardiness once mature.

Because of Greg Sage’s long-term work, the “Select Aquatics” Odessa Barb has become a benchmark strain among breeders—ideal for anyone seeking both beauty and reliability in a breeding project or display tank.
