Personal experience - OG bounce Coral Mushroom

Hello everyone,

I recently purchased an OG Bounce coral for my 60-gallon frag tank. Quick heads-up: you do need stable reef parameters (salinity, magnesium, nitrate, etc.). I’m not sharing exact numbers here—this post is just my personal experience with an OG Bounce mushroom.

I’ve wanted this coral for a long time. It looks stunning in photos, and as a collector I’ve always been drawn to rare, valuable corals.

I’ve had my OG Bounce for a while now and watched it closely. At this point, I feel confident sharing what I’ve learned.

They’re not hard to care for, but they will test your nerves. Their reactions can make you panic and think you’re going to lose all your money. The best thing to do is not panic. If your other corals are doing great, it’s more than likely just being dramatic.

Ballooning (what I’ve seen):
Mine didn’t balloon when I first added it, so I thought there wouldn’t be any big reaction. A couple of days later, after a 5-gallon water change, it ballooned immediately and I panicked. After doing some research, I learned OG Bounce mushrooms can balloon when new water brings in fresh minerals/trace elements. This can actually be a good sign—it means the coral is healthy enough to react. After a while it shrivels back down and returns to normal.

Shriveling at night:
It will shrivel up as soon as the reef lights turn off. This is normal.

Feeding (what worked for me):
When I first got my OG Bounce, it was under UV-only lighting for a couple of weeks. I read a post about feeding them and gave it a try—and it was the best call. I fed a tiny amount of mysis (about five shrimp) and saw visible growth the next day. So far, it’s enjoyed three feedings per week; I may increase that as it grows.

I did panic during that first feeding because it shriveled up—but in this case, that was a good sign. It recognized the food and went into a feeding response right away. I wasn’t even sure where the mouth was, so I placed the food between the two biggest bubbles—and that nailed it.

I noticed that it DID Not like FLOW AT all, When the edge of the coral would start to flap a couple of minutes later it will start to shrivel up.
