Here’s how it works, why it’s secure, and a peek behind the curtain at the logic that makes it tick.

• One-Click Simplicity: No need to remember yet another password. Log in with your existing Google account in seconds.
• Verified Identity: Google helps verify that you’re really you—adding another layer of trust to our fishkeeping community.
• No Extra Accounts: If you’re new, registering is as easy as a single click.

1. Look for the “Sign in with Google” button on the login page.
2. Click the button. You’ll be securely redirected to Google and asked to choose or sign in to your account.
3. Grant permission for FishBSE.com to access your email and basic profile (we don’t see your password!).
4. That’s it! You’ll be instantly logged in and redirected to your dashboard.

• First time here? We’ll automatically create your account for you.
• Returning? We’ll log you in to your existing FishBSE profile.

Here’s a quick breakdown of the technical flow and logic:

1. Token Exchange:
   After you log in with Google, we receive a special, encrypted “ID token” directly from Google (not your password). This token is only valid for a few minutes.
2. Server Verification:
   Our server calls Google to check that the token is real and unexpired, and that the account really belongs to you.
3. Account Matching:
   • If you’ve logged in before with Google, we find your FishBSE account and log you in.
   • If this is your first time, we create a new account using your Google email and profile info.
   • Already have a FishBSE account with your Google email? We link your Google account to your existing profile (no duplicates!).
4. Profile Picture:
   We fetch your Google profile image and save it securely on FishBSE, so you’ll see it on your dashboard and listings.
5. Session Created:
   Once verified, you’re logged in and ready to dive into the marketplace!
