So I wanted to make this thread to see if anyone else has experienced something similar with their reef tank.
I have a 60-gallon reef tank, and for months I was using Red Sea salt. When I first got into the reef hobby, I thought Red Sea was one of the better salt brands based on what I had researched. But after some time, I noticed my corals were not doing as well as I expected.
Eventually, I switched over to Instant Ocean Reef Crystals, and after a few water changes, I noticed my corals started looking much better. They had better extension, looked healthier, and overall seemed less stressed.
I ended up buying a bucket of Reef Crystals and used it for several months. Once I ran through it, I decided to switch back to Red Sea salt because I now have more corals and thought it would be a good move for my reef tank.
But now, after only two water changes back with Red Sea salt, my corals are not exactly dying or doing terrible, but they definitely look stressed. Yesterday, I even had a hammer coral experience polyp bailout, which has never happened before in my tank.
I’m trying to figure out if this could be related to the salt switch, a change in parameters, or maybe the corals reacting to instability from changing salt mixes.
Has anyone else noticed coral stress, hammer coral issues, or polyp bailout after switching from Reef Crystals to Red Sea salt or changing salt brands in general?
I’d really appreciate hearing other people’s experiences..
Anyways for time being ill be moving back to INSTANT ocean..
